Introducing This Blog's MVP: Bailey White

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Bailey White, a senior integrated marketing communication major at Slippery Rock University. I transferred from Westmoreland County Community College to SRU my sophomore year and, so far, it was the best decision I have made in my life. I am involved in exciting clubs such as Illusions Dance Team and Lambda Pi Eta, I enjoy all my classes and I made life-long friends. I started at community college because I had no idea what I wanted to major in, but I knew I wanted to study at SRU. While looking through the long list of majors, IMC caught my attention and I knew I wanted to try it. IMC is a great major because it combines all my favorite aspects of school: communication, marketing, journalism, social media and more. New-media journalism is interesting because there are forms of new media being developed constantly, while journalism is still as important as it was when it was first introduced. I have always took pleasure in writing, so I am looking forward to learning proper ways to effectively merge multimedia with journalism. Also, blogs are current and fun, so I definitely want to learn more about them.

When I need to check the news, a credible source I can always count on is the New York Times. The New York Times covers a variety of news, such as: sports, health, politics, travel and more. Their news articles and graphics are engaging. Slippery Rock also provides its staff and students with a free subscription to the NY Times, which is appreciated by a poor college student such as myself! Their app is easy to use, which is helpful when I need to check the news but don't have access to a computer. A stand-alone digital media outlet I am fond of is Upworthy. Upworthy tells stories that bring people together, such as writing about the crisis with detained children and the Amazon Rainforest fire. Their articles are set up using pictures and colors to grab the reader's attention. I trust Upworthy since their stories are legitimate and current.

Another fun fact about me is I love the Steelers and my favorite player is JuJu Smith-Schuster, as if you couldn't tell by my picture.
